An idiom is a fixed combination of words that has a particular meaning, which usually cannot be guessed from the meanings of the individual words themselves. The English language is full of such expressions, and they can be very difficult for non native speakers to understand and use correctly.Idioms in Action is a series of books intended for students aged between 9 and 15 and other foreign learners. It aims to enhance the reader’s understanding and enjoyment of the rich variety of English idioms by a short explanation of the idiom and example sentences. Each expression is then presented in a humorous situation, illustrated by a set of four cartoons with captions or dialogue. This will increase the reader’s confidence and ability to use the expression in different contexts in speech and writing. Additional information about the origin of the idiom is given for those with an interesting story to tell
